Dress rehersal

At samba yesterday the samba rehersal went very well. At the start we played our piece then towards the end of the session we sorted out where we were going to stand in the performance in cambridge. The outfits worked well and because the size of the tshirts were very big they fitted over our normal clothes and looked alright. The boys masks though were too small and didn't fit over their faces which didn't work. If we had more time i would say that we should do more to the costumes that we are wearing. I also think that we could try to learn a different style of samba to add more difficulty to our performance.

Today i am going to look over the internet and see if i can find the cheapest white t-shirts possible. I have just discovered 'Fruit of the Loom' t-shirts, they are not very expensive but overall we don't think we have enough money to pay for everything as well as the t-shirts. here is a picture of the t-shirt that i found
the cost of it is £1.22

CAMBRIDGE RESEARCH REPORT

Acro Iris Samba create a sense of band identity by all wearing jumpers that say the name of the band on them. I really like this piece because they all look like they are really enjoying them selves and do not look embarrased. It is good not to look embarrased because then the public will realise you are not taking it seriously. Occasionally you can see certain members of the band looking at each other so they know how to keep in time. They also have a leader who had a seperate drum which is leading the samba band, this helps the band members to know what section they have got to in the song. By stepping from side to side and dancing is involving the audience to join in with what they are doing and dance to the music. The band is arranged with the big drums which a low sound at the back which you cannot always see, then there is the smaller drums which have a lighter sound. Right at the front there is the little drums and the go go bells. There is also a stage at the back which the big drummers are standing on so that they are noticible to the audience.

Thudbox - Bal A

Thudbox are a smaller group than Acro Iris and tend to perform in clubs, pubs and at festivals. At the start of the song it is just the lady playing a tune on the piano sort of thing. Then others gradually start to join in and create a beat. There doesnt look like there is a main leader who is telling the band what to do which means that they are all managing to keep in time with each other and know when they have to move onto different section ect.. The band don't seem to have a layout on the stage but the bigger drums seem to be at the back than at the front. Lots of light affects have been used at the start of the piece it is very dark and then gradually it gets lighter. It gets lighter when they change to the 'jungle' style of samba and then gets darker again. This marks the change in the piece of music and adds to the affect.
